SHC stops MDCAT results announcement

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday stopped the relevant authorities from announcing the results of the medical and dental college admission test (MDCAT) and formed a three-member committee to look into the allegations of irregularities in the recently-held exams.

A two-member bench led by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, and including Justice Amjad Sahto, heard the petition against alleged irregularities in the MDCAT. Sindh chief secretary, vice chancellors of universities, and other appeared in the court.

During the hearing, Justice Panhwar asked as to who prepared the papers. The Dow University vice chancellor replied that the universities prepared the papers themselves. The court was also informed that 58,000 students in Punjab, 42,000 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and 38,000 in Sindh sat the exam.

The court remarked that last year, the exam was held at the Jinnah Sindh Medical University in Sindh, which was for the second time. The vice chancellor of the University told the court that there were no complaints of paper leaks at that time.

The chief secretary said that the Sindh government wanted action if something wrong had happened, but 22,000 students should not be put into this trouble again. Later, the court stopped the announcement of the MDCAT results.
