Police kill five in Manghopir shootout
Five armed robbers were killed during an exchange of fire with police in Manghopir's Khairabad Gulshan-e-Tawheed area in the early hours of Wednesday.
Police recovered a sub-machinegun, a 12-guage repeater, three pistols, ammunition, a lock cutter, five mobile phones, and cash from the dead suspects.
SSP West Tariq Elhai Mastoi, in a media briefing, said the robbers were part of a gang involved in street crimes, house robberies, and other criminal activities across the city. The dead robbers also sexually assaulted women during home robberies, the SSP said adding investigations are ongoing to verify these claims.
He said that police, led by DSP Masroor, were conducting a search operation in Gulshan-e-Tawheed on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, as part of investigations into the recent attack on the Chinese nationals near airport.
Meanwhile, a citizen called the police helpline about the presence of armed robbers in the same area. DSP Mansoor immediately deployed the mobiles and cornered the suspects. Instead of surrendering, the robbers opened fire on the officers, who retaliated, killing two on the spot. Three more suspects, who were seriously injured in the shootout, later died while being transported to the hospital.
