Toddler girl strangulated

Police have arrested a man for the rape and murder of a three-year-old child.

Naseer, a rickshaw driver, was seen carrying the body in a CCTV camera footage, Gulberg Police Station SHO Faisal Rafique said.

The culprit, a neighbour of the victim, in his confession to the police said the child in the lane and hauled her in his house and tried to rape her but she died. He took the body in a bag and dumped it in a lane. Three-year-old victim, Amna daughter of Abdul Basit, was found dead in Qabail Colony, Federal B Area, on Wednesday morning, apparently strangulated to death by her own dupatta (head scarf). Local police shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

While speaking to the media at the hospital, Abdul Qadim, an uncle of the deceased, said, "Amna, was the youngest of six siblings. On Wednesday morning, her siblings left for school and madrassa. Amna also stepped out. We searched for her, but 20 minutes later her body was found in a street behind the home." Central District SSP Zeeshan Siddiqui said investigation was ongoing with the help of CCTV footages.

Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed, meanwhile, said that the post-mortem examination has been completed.
