Sindh govt activates seven agricultural farms to boost seed output

Sindh Seed Corporation has decided to produce fruit, oilseed, and vegetable seeds, and has also developed a new app.

According to Express News, a review meeting regarding the introduction of new reforms at the Sindh Seed Corporation was held under the chairmanship of Agriculture Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mehar.

The meeting was attended by Secretary of Agriculture Rafiq Ahmad Abro, MD of Seed Corporation Mushtaq Soomro, Directors General Nadeem Shah, Shahab Abro, Mazhar Keerio, and others.

During the meeting, MD Mushtaq Ahmad Soomro presented a step-by-step plan for implementing new reforms at the Seed Corporation. This plan will be submitted to the Sindh Cabinet.

In his briefing, MD Mushtaq Soomro informed the Agriculture Minister that seven out of twelve inactive agricultural farms and seed processing plants had been activated within 20 days.

The meeting also discussed a plan to generate Rs500 million in income and incur Rs200 million in expenses over two years.

Three processing plants in Sukkur and two in Ghotki have also been activated.

It was reported during the meeting that the Seed Corporation has established two mobile units to provide awareness to farmers in rural areas.

Agriculture Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mehar instructed the Seed Corporation to make 1,500 acres of uncultivated agricultural land cultivable within two years.

Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mehar emphasized that farmers in Sindh should be provided with seeds at affordable prices and that other seed plants should also be activated. He urged the provision of high-quality seeds to farmers to maximize their yields.

The meeting confirmed that the new app for the Seed Corporation has been developed, and seven agricultural farms and seed processing plants have also been activated.
