LHC seeks report on visually impaired job protest

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the provincial government to submit a report by October 10 regarding the ongoing protest by visually impaired individuals on The Mall Road.

The protesters have been demonstrating for two weeks, demanding their rightful job quota.

During the proceedings, Justice Rasaal Hasan Syed inquired if anyone from the protesters had attempted suicide. The government's law officer informed the court that one individual drank petrol in an act of desperation after negotiations with the government failed to yield any results.

Justice Rasaal further questioned if the protesters were seeking security, to which the petitioner's counsel clarified that their demand was not for security but for the allocation of job quotas as per policy.

The counsel argued that while the government has repeatedly engaged with the protesters, no substantial steps have been taken to improve the conditions for visually impaired individuals.

The petitioner emphasised that despite previous court orders, the protesters have not been granted the appropriate quota in government jobs.

He urged the court to direct the relevant authorities to ensure that jobs are allocated to the visually impaired in accordance with the established quota policy.
