PESHAWAR:

Staying true to their word, municipal employees of Peshawar took to the streets in protest against the nonpayment of salaries.

The workers held a demonstration at Bacha Khan Chowk and blocked Charsadda Road for traffic. The protesters announced that they would continue their protest until their salaries and pensions are paid. Separate protests were organised by the United Municipal Workers Union and the Labour Union over the nonpayment of salaries and pensions.

The United Municipal Workers Union's protest was led by Chairman Malik Naveed, while the Labour Union's was headed by Qaiser Bacha.

The employees gathered at the Capital Metropolitan's administration block and marched to Bacha Khan Chowk, where they chanted slogans. The protesters complained that their salaries were not paid on time each month, and they were yet to receive this month's salary.

They asserted that the past last months, widows and orphaned children of retired or deceased employees have been starving.
