Andrew Garfield reveals sex scene with Florence Pugh in 'We Live in Time' went further than intended

Andrew Garfield recently shared an amusing behind-the-scenes moment from the upcoming film We Live in Time, where a steamy scene with co-star Florence Pugh went beyond what was originally planned. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Garfield described how the intimate moment escalated after they failed to hear the call for “cut” during the filming process.

In We Live in Time, Garfield and Pugh play a married couple, and the story includes several passionate scenes. Garfield explained that during one particular scene, the intensity heightened as he and Pugh continued acting, unaware that the camera had stopped rolling. The cinematographer had even turned away from the action, adding to the lighthearted miscommunication.

“We do the first take of this very intimate, passionate scene,” Garfield recalled. “It’s a closed set, just Florence and me in the room with our director of photography, Stewart. We choreographed it, got into it, and went a little further than we were supposed to — simply because we never heard ‘cut.’”

Garfield humorously reenacted the moment when he and Pugh realized something was off, eventually noticing that their director of photography had stopped filming and turned away.

Directed by John Crowley, We Live in Time follows the romantic journey of Almut (Pugh), an ambitious chef, and Tobias (Garfield), a recently divorced man, as they navigate love, family, and time. The film, produced by A24, is set for a limited theatrical release in the U.S. on October 11, 2024, after premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival.

We Live in Time also explores how the couple’s relationship faces unexpected challenges, with a deep secret threatening to unravel the life they built together. The romantic drama captures moments of love, hardship, and how time itself becomes a key player in their lives.
