At least five killed, 10 injured in bus crash on M2 near Lahore

A bus travelling from Mansehra to Lahore collided with a van near Faizpur on the M2 motorway, resulting in the deaths of at least five people and leaving 10 others injured, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The accident occurred when the speeding bus rear-ended a Hiace van, according to motorway spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed.

The bus was en route to Lahore when it struck the van from behind near the Faizpur interchange.

Motorway police have attributed the tragic incident to the bus driver falling asleep at the wheel.

Rescue operations were swiftly initiated by the motorway police, under the supervision of sector commander Ashiq Chauhan.

The injured were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Masroor Alam Kolachi visited the hospital to check on the condition of the injured, offering support to the victims and their families.

On Sunday night, the oil tanker explosion near Jinnah International Airport in Karachi created chaos and fear on Sunday, resulting in two fatalities and injuries to ten others, including several security personnel.

The blast occurred close to the airport signal and was so powerful that it was heard from a significant distance, prompting residents to evacuate their homes in panic.

Three cars and four motorcycles were destroyed due to the explosion, leading to immediate traffic disruption in Shahrah-e-Faisal as authorities worked to manage the situation.

Rangers and police swiftly arrived at the scene, cordoning off the area and allowing fire brigade teams to combat the flames resulting from the blast.

It took about an hour for the fire to be brought under control, and rescue officials confirmed that among the injured were three security guards, two Rangers, a police officer, a foreign national, and three civilians.

A day earlier, a local landowner's wife, his son and mother lost their lives in a devastating accident while visiting family in Kot Addu.

The tragedy unfolded as their bodies were brought home, prompting an outpouring of grief from the community. Fauzia Batool, the wife of landowner Mian Muhammad Ali Qureshi, also known as Mian Bubal, was travelling with her son, Muhammad Talal Qureshi, and her mother, Shireen Akhtar.

The family was returning to their home in Basti Jano, Kot Addu, when a speeding car collided with their rickshaw on Head Tunza Road.

The impact was catastrophic, resulting in the immediate deaths of Fauzia, Talal, Shireen, and the rickshaw driver, Riaz.

The driver of the car, identified by the license plate ANB 605, fled the scene following the collision.
