ISLAMABAD:

Punjab's road safety measures have taken a major leap forward with the introduction of AI-based e-challans, a technological innovation designed to automate traffic violation detection and enforcement, according to Operation Commander Muhammad Shafique Ahmad of Punjab Safe City.

Speaking to the state-run PTV news channel, he highlighted that under Chief Minister Maryum Nawaz's leadership, Punjab is making significant strides in enhancing road safety through these AI-driven e-challans aimed at curbing traffic violations.

This innovative system utilizes artificial intelligence to automatically detect 19 types of traffic violations, including driving on the wrong side, triple riding, and speeding.

Ahmad explained that the first phase will focus on enforcing e-challans for not wearing helmets on motorcycles and seat belts in vehicles, while the second phase will expand to cover 24 traffic rule violations.

Sajjad, in-charge of the AI challan initiative, emphasised that those who jeopardize public safety will face consequences. The government is committed to promoting road safety and discipline by taking strict action against reckless drivers and those who violate traffic rules.
