ISLAMABAD:

With around 8,800 federal police officers and personnel of 27 police stations across the district on emergency duty during the PTI protests, action could not be taken on more than 200 complaints of the federal capital's citizens.

On October 5, cases were registered in only five out of 27 police stations on six petitions. These included cases registered at the Margalla police station, Koral police station, Lohi Bher police station, Shahzad Town police station and two theft cases registered in Khana police station.

Police sources told The Express Tribune that more than 70 per cent of the federal police were on duty to maintain law and order during the protests on Friday and Saturday. In addition to that, police officials were also deputed for route duties when the Malaysian Prime Minister was visiting the federal capital.

On the other hand, 90 per cent of the personnel who are regularly present within police stations were also assigned to different entry points throughout the district, due to which the police could not pay attention to the problems of the common people at the police stations. Police-related complaints of more than 200 citizens were pending in all police stations and the process of registering cases was unusually slow.
