JARANWALA:

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has kicked off its annual Gur Mela, showcasing the rich colours of rural folk traditions and offering an array of traditional dishes.

The event, organised by the Directorate of Farms, was inaugurated by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and will continue until October 8. Students dressed in traditional attire set up various stalls featuring rural delicacies such as sweets, saag, makai ki roti and lassi.

Food enthusiasts from across the region flocked to the mela to savor these cultural delights and experience the charm of rural life.

In his address, Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage, warning that nations which neglect their rich traditions risk losing their identity.

He urged concerted efforts to promote cultural practices and engage the younger generation in sustaining these values.

"In today's modern world, we are rapidly changing our lifestyles and food habits, distancing ourselves from the simplicity of our roots, which has led to a rise in health issues and social unrest," he said.
