141 dengue cases recorded

The Punjab health authorities confirmed the detection of 141 new dengue cases in the province on Saturday.

According to a spokesperson, Rawalpindi remained the hardest hit, reporting 129 cases, while Lahore, Jehlum and Mianwali recorded three cases each and Attock, Bahawalpur and Sahiwal one each.

The tally raised the total number of dengue cases reported in the province during the ongoing year to 2,389.

A spokesperson for the primary and secondary healthcare department said all necessary measures were in place to manage the outbreak. Government hospitals are stocked with medicines and treatment facilities for dengue patients.

An advisory issued by the department urged the public to maintain clean and dry surroundings to reduce the spread of the virus. Stressing the need for public cooperation, it said health teams were working across the province to cope with the situation. Citizens were urged to contact the free helpline number 1033.
