Female bandits strike fear in Jhelum

Locals call for urgent action as police fail to respond effectively

JHELUM:

Jhelum has become a haven for thieves and dacoits, with reports of women robbers stealing millions of rupees in gold and cash during daylight hours. Residents are feeling increasingly unsafe in their own homes, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the police despite significant funding.

According to sources, in a recent incident in Mohalla Mujahidabad, two female bandits entered a house under the pretence of needing water. They held the family members at knifepoint, stealing jewellery and cash worth three million rupees before fleeing the scene. Alarmingly, the local police did not respond to calls for help during the incident, further fuelling public fear.

Citizens have demanded urgent action from higher authorities, including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and senior officials, as crime rates continue to escalate within the jurisdiction of the Jhelum City police station. The rise in robberies and assaults—often committed in public—has left many feeling vulnerable, with reports of victims being attacked for resisting. Despite CCTV footage capturing these crimes, the police have yet to apprehend the culprits.

The community calls for immediate intervention and accountability from law enforcement to restore safety and security in Jhelum.
