Anne Hathaway has officially confirmed that The Princess Diaries 3 is in development, marking her return to the beloved franchise nearly two decades after the 2004 sequel. The 41-year-old actress posted a video on Instagram teasing the third installment, holding up three fingers as scenes from the first two films played, accompanied by the song Miracles Happen. Hathaway captioned the post, “Miracles happen. Back to Genovia,” confirming her return alongside director Adele Lim​.

Lim, known for Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and the Last Dragon, will direct the film. In a statement to Variety, Lim expressed her excitement, saying, “As a die-hard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life”​ Fans of the franchise eagerly responded, expressing their excitement in the comments section.

Hathaway and Julie Andrews starred in the first two films, with Andrews reprising her role in the upcoming sequel, though her involvement has not been officially confirmed yet. The film is expected to celebrate the themes of female empowerment and mentorship that defined the earlier movies.
