Lyari River becomes death trap

Lyari River near Sohrab Goth has become cause of death for children. On Friday, two children playing on the Lyari River bank fell in the water; one was rescued, while the other drowned. Residents said children fall in the river and die, but no measures are being taken to prevent this.

On Friday, 12-year-old Ismail and 10-year-old Sulaiman Mehsud fell into the river while playing. Sulaiman was immediately rescued while search for Ismail continued till evening. Rescue 1122 officials said the search for the drowned child was going on using all possible resources.

The locals said that there have been many cases of people drowning in the Lyari River in a short period of time. Even the bodies of some children could not be found. The people of the area have demanded that measures should be taken to prevent these drowning incidents.
