Former US President Donald Trump has spoken out about his differing views with his wife, Melania Trump, on the topic of abortion rights. The former first lady, in her upcoming memoir and a recent video on X, has expressed her support for a woman's right to choose, a stance that contrasts with the Republican Party and her husband’s previously stated positions.

Despite this, Donald Trump maintains that he has no intention of influencing his wife’s views. “I’m not going to tell you what to do,” Trump told Fox News, adding, “You have to write what you believe. I’ve said that to everybody, you have to go with your heart.”

Melania’s reemergence into the public eye, particularly in the lead-up to the release of her book *Melania*, has drawn attention to her views. In an excerpt obtained by *The Guardian*, she advocates for a woman’s autonomy over her body, stating,

“A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes.” Her remarks have sparked backlash from anti-abortion groups, with SBA Pro-Life America’s Kristan Hawkins condemning Melania's stance as “anti-feminist” and “anti-Catholic.”

While Donald Trump has been vocal about his role in the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn *Roe v. Wade*, ending nationwide access to abortion, he has more recently suggested he would not support a federal abortion ban, advocating instead for states to make their own decisions on the matter. This positioning aligns him with some of Ronald Reagan’s views, supporting exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother.

Melania, in her Fox News interview with Sean Hannity, acknowledged that she and her husband sometimes have “political disagreements.” Her pro-choice views have prompted significant debate, further highlighting the complexities of abortion as a key issue in upcoming elections.
