Matric results announced in Karachi: Govt school secures first position after 28 years

The Karachi Board of Secondary Education has announced the annual results for the Matric Science exams for the year 2024. According to the results, signed by Acting Controller Zaheeruddin Bhutto, a government school has secured the first position after 28 years.

The last time a government school achieved a top position in the Matric exams was in 1996 when Delhi Government Boys School secured the distinction. Since then, private schools have consistently claimed the top positions as academic performance in government schools declined.

The student who secured the first position this year is Hafiz Abdul Rafay Tariq, son of Tariq Mahboob, a mathematics teacher at Delhi Government Boys Secondary School in Karimabad. Abdul Rafay scored 1,040 out of 1,100 marks, achieving a percentage of 94.55%.

The second and third positions were claimed by students from private schools. Rumaissa Imran from Al-Khalil Model School in Malir secured the second position with 1,037 marks and 94.27%. Rukhsar from Little Folks School in North Nazimabad secured the third position with 1,025 marks and 93.18%.

A total of 163,012 candidates were registered for the Matric Science exams, with 933 candidates absent. Out of the 162,026 candidates who appeared for the exams, 131,614 were declared successful, resulting in a pass rate of 81.24%.

According to the detailed results, 23,943 candidates passed with an A-1 grade, 45,357 with an A grade, 37,595 with a B grade, 20,837 with a C grade, 4,031 with a D grade, and 25 candidates secured an E grade.

A total of 76,831 female candidates and 85,195 male candidates participated in the exams. Among them, 63,767 females and 67,847 males were successful.

In terms of top grades, 15,616 females and 8,327 males passed with an A-1 grade, while 23,357 females and 22,000 males secured an A grade. Additionally, 16,496 females and 21,099 males achieved a B grade, while 7,421 females and 14,416 males passed with a C grade.
