Sobia Usman calls husband Usman Qadir's retirement a 'black day' for Pakistan

The spinner announced retirement from cricket yesterday on X noting gratitude for 'opportunity to represent Pakistan'

After Pakistani cricketer Usman Qadir’s sudden retirement from international cricket, his wife, Sobia Usman, posted an emotional tweet which has gone viral.

Qadir, a spin bowler and the son of legendary cricketer Abdul Qadir, announced his retirement on Thursday via social media.

In her message posted on the social media platform X, Sobia expressed deep frustration, describing the day as a "dark day" for her as a Pakistani.

She criticized the prevalence of nepotism in Pakistan, stating that favoritism is obstructing true talent from rising. "We cannot move forward until we support those who truly deserve it," she wrote.

Usman Qadir’s decision to retire comes amid ongoing struggles related to obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC), which has reportedly been a persistent issue for him.

According to sources, his decision to retire was driven by disillusionment over these unresolved NOC matters.

Qadir, who played in 25 T20 internationals and one ODI for Pakistan, had faced challenges in recent months regarding his cricketing future. His sudden departure from the game has sparked widespread discussion, with many sympathizing with his situation.

Yesterday, Pakistan’s leg-spinner Usman Qadir has announced his retirement from international cricket, marking the end of a career that saw him represent his country in 25 T20 Internationals and one ODI. The 31-year-old cricketer shared the news via a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), expressing gratitude for the opportunity to represent Pakistan.

Qadir, the son of legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, reflected on his journey, thanking his coaches, teammates, and the fans who supported him throughout his career.

“It has been an immense honour to represent my country,” Qadir wrote. “I’m thankful for the support of my coaches and teammates who have been with me every step of the way.”

Despite his accomplishments, Qadir also faced challenges, including frustrations over his exclusion from the national team.

In May 2024, he voiced concerns about former PCB technical director Mohammad Hafeez, alleging that Hafeez influenced his absence from the squad.

Qadir has vowed to continue his father’s legacy as he steps away from Pakistan cricket. “As I step into this new chapter, I will be continuing my dad’s legacy, embracing both my love for cricket and the lessons he instilled in me,” Qadir stated.

Usman Qadir concluded his international career with 29 wickets and an economy rate of 7.95 in T20Is. He last represented Pakistan in 2022 and had since been playing for the Dolphins in the Champions One-Day Cup.
