Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz is being ridiculed online after an awkward moment during Tuesday’s debate against Republican candidate JD Vance.

What started as a fairly civil debate took a turn when Walz, while discussing gun violence, made a surprising comment that left everyone raising their eyebrows: “I became friends with school shooters.”

Walz’s remark came after he was asked about his shift in stance on banning assault weapons. He responded by talking about his meetings with the parents of Sandy Hook victims but then dropped the bombshell line: "I became friends with school shooters. I've seen it."

Naturally, the internet went wild, with X (formerly known as Twitter) users having a field day as jokes and memes flooded the platform.

Not one to miss an opportunity, former President Donald Trump jumped in on Truth Social, saying, "Walz made a very big mistake on Gun Shooters. Does anyone think he knows what he said?"

During the debate, Walz also shared that his son, Gus, had witnessed a shooting at a community center while playing volleyball, adding an emotional touch to the otherwise meme-worthy moment.
