Ian Hislop targeted after taxi hit by suspected gunshot in London’s Soho
Ian Hislop, editor of Private Eye and Have I Got News For You star, was uninjured after a suspected gunshot struck a taxi he was traveling in on Dean Street, Soho. The incident occurred around 10am on Tuesday, October 1, as Hislop was seated in the back of a black cab. The vehicle’s back window was hit, but both Hislop and the driver were unharmed.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed, "The driver of a London black taxi reported he was stationary in traffic when a shot was fired towards his vehicle, striking the window." Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are keeping an "open mind as to any motive." Roads in the surrounding area were temporarily closed as police searched the scene.
The Guardian reports that the incident took place near the Private Eye office, where Hislop has been editor since 1986. Hislop is also well-known for his long-standing role as a panellist and team captain on the BBC’s satirical quiz show Have I Got News For You since its launch in 1990. No official comment has yet been made by Hislop regarding the event.
