The official cause of death for rapper Rich Homie Quan has been revealed as an accidental drug overdose, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office. The 34-year-old artist, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died on September 5, 2024, in Atlanta. A report obtained by PEOPLE on October 1 confirmed that multiple drugs were found in his system, including fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, promethazine, and THC. The report further stated that there were no signs of trauma, and his death has been ruled an accident.

Lamar was found unresponsive in his home. According to an incident report obtained by PEOPLE, Lamar’s brother discovered him asleep on the kitchen floor at 3 a.m., which he found unusual. The brother moved him to the couch, but later that morning, a woman in the house noticed Lamar was cold and not breathing. Emergency services were called, but Lamar was pronounced dead at the scene.

The rapper’s family shared a heartfelt statement with PEOPLE, saying, “While he leaves us with an undeniable hole in our hearts, we are comforted by knowing his music and triumphant spirit lives on.” They expressed their gratitude for the support they’ve received and noted that a celebration of life had been held on September 17 in Georgia.

Rich Homie Quan, known for hits like “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Type of Way,” leaves behind five children and a lasting legacy in the music industry.
