LODHRAN:

A double murder suspect was sentenced to death and fined Rs200,000 in Lodhran on Tuesday.

Additional Sessions Judge Dunyapur concluded the hearing of a double murder case registered at Dunyapur City police station, sentencing the accused, Shehbaz to death.

As per the police report, the incident occurred on June 24, when Abdul Khaliq, a resident of Basti Ghareeb Abad near the Dunyapur railway station, reported the crime to the police.

In his statement, he revealed that his sister-in-law, Zarina Bibi, who had four children (Waqas, Ilyas, Sonia, and Nigah) from her first marriage to his brother Muhammad Hussain, later divorced him and married Muhammad Ramzan, a resident of 342/WB.

Zarina Bibi had three children (Arslan, Zeeshan, and Sajid) from this second marriage.

Zarina Bibi was living with her second husband, who was working abroad in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Ramzan's sister, Kausar Bibi, had been married to Abdul Khaliq's nephew, Muhammad Ilyas, a year earlier.

The convict, Muhammad Shehbaz, who was the brother of Zarina Bibi's second husband, was upset over this marriage and had threatened Zarina Bibi two days before the incident, saying he would kill her.

On June 24, 2021, in a fit of rage over the family dispute, Shehbaz opened fire, killing both his sister-in-law Zarina Bibi and his sister, Kausar Bibi.

The case was registered under FIR 315/21 at Dunyapur City Police Station, and the investigation led to Shehbaz's trial.

District Police Officer (DPO) Kamran Mumtaz praised the thorough investigation and prosecution efforts, stating that the conviction is a triumph for justice.

He emphasised that all measures are being taken to ensure that individuals involved in serious crimes receive appropriate punishment.
