LAHORE:

The Punjab government has urged all its universities and colleges to take strict action against the students and teachers who drive motorcycles without wearing helmets.

According to officials, the government has asked the vice chancellors of the universities to ban the entry of faculty members violating the rule regarding helmet and introduce penalties to implement the policy.

The heads of all government colleges across Punjab were also instructed to take strict measures against teaches and students ignoring the restriction.

The sources said the colleges had been asked to make the attendance of students subject to following the restriction.

Wearing helmet will be compulsory for all faculty members and students of the universities and colleges as the Punjab government has decided to adopt a policy of zero tolerance in this regard.

The Punjab Higher Education Department issued a notification to all public sector university VCs, college principals and other officials concerned to implement the compulsory condition.

The notification urged the VCs and principals to initially issue announcements regarding the policy and after that launch awareness campaigns, including lectures, to tell the faculty and students about the importance of helmet for motorcyclists.

The university and college administrations were instructed that strict surveillance should be started at the entry and exit points of the institutions to stop all the teachers and students who are riding motorcycles without helmets at the gates.
