ISLAMABAD:

On World Tourism Day, Galyat Development Authority (GDA) Director General Shahrukh Ali highlighted the importance of promoting eco-friendly tourism and reaffirmed the government's commitment to sustainable tourism practices. He reported that Galyat Valley has attracted over 1 million visitors this year alone.

In an interview with a private news channel, Ali emphasised that sustainable tourism not only drives economic growth but also protects the region's unique environment and cultural heritage.

By prioritising eco-friendly initiatives, Galyat Valley is set to become a premier sustainable tourism destination, showcasing Pakistan's natural beauty and dedication to environmental conservation.

World Tourism Day, celebrated on September 27, aims to raise awareness about the social, cultural, political and economic value of tourism, and its role in achieving Sustainable Development Goals. The 2024 theme, "Tourism and Peace," highlights the vital role tourism plays in fostering international understanding, cultural exchange, and global harmony.

Ali announced that the Galyat Tourism Authority is leading efforts to enhance the tourist experience by establishing modern car parking facilities.

Over 50 hotels and guesthouses have been registered to ensure quality accommodations and services for visitors. This registration initiative aims to standardise services, boost the local economy and enhance transparency in tourism operations.

He stated that focusing on sustainable tourism will not only preserve Galyat's natural beauty but also provide visitors with a unique experience. These initiatives align with the global theme of World Tourism Day, promoting responsible tourism practices that foster economic growth, cultural exchange, and environmental conservation.
