Ranbir to play lead villain in 'Dhoom 4'
Film fans who enjoy an action-packed Bollywood thriller can rejoice. Pinkvilla reported that Dhoom 4 has actively entered the pre-production phase, with Animal star Ranbir Kapoor having been cast as the lead villain.
A source revealed to the publication that under the supervision of Aditya Chopra, the action-thriller has actively entered the pre-production stage at YRF. A director will be selected by YRF by mid-2025. The project is tentatively looking to go to the floor by the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026.
"Dhoom is a franchise dear to Aditya, and he has decided to reboot the franchise keeping in line with the current times," stated the source. "Like all previous parts, the script of Dhoom 4 (Dhoom Reloaded) is being developed by Aditya with Vijay Krishna Acharya. The vision to create a cinematic experience like never before with the fourth Dhoom film."
Two decades ago, filmmaker Aditya collaborated with Sanjay Gadhvi for the first Dhoom film, which hit screens in 2004, featuring John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan, and Uday Chopra. Dhoom 2 was released in 2006 with Hrithik Roshan playing the antagonist.
Dhoom 3 was released in 2013 with Aamir Khan joining the franchise. Since then, fans have been speculating about whether the action-thriller series would see a fourth addition. Now, with Ranbir having signed on Dhoom 4, marking his 25th film in the industry, that speculation can finally be satisfied.
Although none of the original stars are scheduled to make a return, the source confirmed that Ranbir was considered to be the "ideal choice to carry forward the Dhoom legacy."
"The discussions with Ranbir have been going on for the longest time," added the source. "He had always shown an interest in Dhoom 4 after hearing the basic idea and is now finally confirmed to lead the franchise."
