Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has claimed that Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa is actively seeking an extension, further speculating that such actions could fuel political instability in the country.

Speaking to the media outside Islamabad’s accountability court, where he appeared for a corruption scandal hearing, Fawad criticised the prolonged inquiry into his case, which has been under investigation for eight months.

"They fabricate fake cases to tarnish reputations," Fawad said, referring to corruption inquiries.

He further expressed concerns over the political climate, stating that rising tensions in the country are widening divisions.

Fawad also commented on the leadership of the Supreme Court, claiming that the way Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa runs the court is facing significant objections.

"There are many complaints about how the Chief Justice is managing the Supreme Court. It seems he is determined to get an extension, which is not good for a stable Pakistan," Fawad remarked.

Fawad did not clairify where the complaints were coming from or how Pakistan would be destablised by an extension.

He also called for political dialogue, urging all political parties and the establishment to come together to find a solution for the country’s mounting challenges.

According to Fawad, Pakistan cannot achieve stability without recognising the political influence of Imran Khan.

The hearing on the corruption reference was presided over by Judge Nasir Javed Rana, who ordered the investigation officer to submit a full report at the next hearing, scheduled for 17 October.
