Shyne, former Bad Boy Records artist, has revealed details about a past love triangle involving himself, Brandy Norwood, and Ma$e during the late 1990s.
The revelation comes as part of his new Hulu documentary, The Honorable Shyne, where he reflects on his time with the label.
In a recent interview, Shyne explained that the romantic entanglement caused tension within the Bad Boy camp, prompting Sean “Diddy” Combs to call a meeting to address the situation. “We had to have like a family meeting. It was like, ‘Yo, what are you doing? You’re like Kobe coming to the Lakers…you can’t go after Shaq’s joint,’” Shyne recounted, referencing his actions and lack of focus at the time.
Shyne confirmed the woman at the center of the drama was Brandy, who was enjoying major success with her chart-topping hits. He admitted Brandy humbled him during an argument, saying, “She told me, ‘You’re nobody…You haven’t sold a record.’”
Shyne acknowledged that her words served as a wake-up call, redirecting his focus toward his music career. “It hit me like the hand of God,” he said, reflecting on how the confrontation changed his mindset.
The love triangle was further corroborated by DJ Clark Kent in The Honorable Shyne, highlighting its impact on the artist’s trajectory within Bad Boy Records.
Shyne’s candid account provides an inside look at the challenges and personal dynamics within one of hip-hop’s most iconic labels.
Shyne speaks on dating Brandy at the same time Mase was, and how Diddy called a meeting to express his disapproval, telling him he shouldn’t date the same woman as his labelmate.
