Govinda suffers leg injury after accidentally shooting himself with own revolver

Bollywood star was rushed to hospital in Juhu, where the bullet was extracted; doctors confirmed injury was below knee

Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda, 60, suffered a bullet injury early Tuesday morning at his Juhu residence after his licensed revolver misfired, Mumbai Police reported.

The incident occurred at around 4:45 am while the actor was getting ready to leave for a flight to Kolkata.

Govinda was alone at home when the accident took place, his manager, Shashi Sinha, said.

"We had a 6 am flight to Kolkata for a show. Govinda ji was about to leave his residence when the revolver accidentally fell from the cupboard and misfired," Sinha explained.

"By God's grace, Govinda ji sustained only a minor injury to his leg, and it wasn't more serious."

The actor, known for his iconic roles in the 90s and early 2000s, was immediately rushed to Criticare Hospital in Juhu, where the bullet was extracted. Medical staff confirmed that the injury was below his knee.

Govinda's condition is now stable, and he has since returned home.

His wife, Sunita Ahuja, who was in Kolkata at the time of the incident, has flown back to Mumbai after hearing about the accident. Their daughter, Tina, remained by her father’s side during his treatment.

In an audio message released to fans, Govinda expressed his gratitude for their well-wishes. "I was hit by a bullet, but it has been extracted.

I thank the doctors, and your prayers have kept me safe. The blessings of my fans, parents, and my guru saved me," the actor said.

Despite the incident, Mumbai Police confirmed that Govinda has not lodged any formal complaint. Authorities arrived at the scene soon after the misfire and are investigating the circumstances.

"There is no indication of foul play, and it appears to have been an unfortunate accident," said a police official.

The actor's manager assured fans that Govinda is doing fine and resting.

"Govinda ji is stable, and doctors have advised rest for the next few days. He will reschedule his upcoming engagements accordingly," Sinha added.

Govinda, a Shiv Sena supporter, remains a beloved figure in Bollywood, with a career spanning over three decades, known for his comedic timing, dance moves, and hit films such as Coolie No. 1, Partner, and Hadh Kar Di Aapne.
