ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that there will be no extension to the deadline for submitting income tax returns for the fiscal year 2024, dispelling rumours circulating in the media.

In a statement issued on Monday, the FBR clarified that reports suggesting an extension in the filing date are baseless. "All taxpayers are urged to file their income tax returns promptly to avoid penalties and fines," the statement said.

Earlier, speculation arose that the deadline could be extended by a month due to system overload, which has hindered some citizens from filing their returns.

FBR sources acknowledged the technical issues, stating that the system is under heavy load, making it difficult for larger tax filings to process smoothly. However, returns from salaried individuals have mostly been processed without issue.

So far, over 3.5 million individuals have successfully submitted their income tax returns. The deadline remains September 30.
