Verizon users across the US report widespread outages, phones stuck in SOS mode

Verizon is currently grappling with a widespread outage affecting mobile services across the United States, with users from numerous cities reporting disruptions. Several people have taken to social media to highlight that their devices are stuck in SOS mode, indicating a complete loss of cellular connection.

Technology websites, The Verge and USA today reported about the sudden outage of services on Monday morning.

A website tracking the outage reported, “During the incident, we received reports from Benton, Brookland, Washington, Dover, Brandon, Cape Coral, Clermont, Naples, Ocala, Oviedo, Palm Bay, Rockledge, St. Petersburg, Atlanta, Dalton, Decatur, Bloomington, Carmel, Cloverdale, Fishers and 223 other cities.” Downdetector, a site monitoring service outages, has registered over 100,000 reports, with hotspots notably concentrated on the East Coast, including major cities like New York and Atlanta.

Despite the mounting reports, Verizon’s support account on X (formerly Twitter) has yet to directly confirm the outage or provide specifics about the locations most affected. Instead, the company is responding to individual users' complaints. Many of these users have stated that their phones are in SOS mode.

In a statement to *The Verge*, Verizon spokesperson Ilya Hemlin acknowledged the issue: “We are aware of an issue impacting service for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue.”

As of now, Verizon has not provided an estimated time for when normal service will be restored.
