Taylor Swift's absence at Travis Kelce's Chiefs game sparks controversy amid criticism
Taylor Swift was noticeably absent when the Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium on Sunday. The “You Belong With Me” singer, 34, also missed the team’s game against the Atlanta Falcons last weekend.
The pop star's second consecutive absence comes amid ongoing scrutiny of her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s performance this season.
However, Chiefs wide receivers Rashee Rice, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Mecole Hardman demonstrated their support before Sunday’s game by donning custom T-shirts featuring various images of Kelce, 34, in action.
While Swift attended Kelce’s first two games, she was not present during his victory against Atlanta, where he recorded four receptions for 30 yards.
Kelce's performance stats have sparked significant discussion over the past few weeks, with some analysts attributing his underwhelming play to his busy personal life.
The three-time Super Bowl champion addressed his slow start to the season during a recent episode of his “New Heights” podcast.
“We’re finding ways to win games, but we’re not playing our best football,” Kelce, 34, admitted.
“Everybody can clean it up,” he added, noting that he dropped a pass during a “crucial” moment last weekend.
However, Kelce noted that he is doing his best to “help the team out” in every way possible and is focused on getting better as the season progresses.
“I’ve had a lot of catches in this league, man. I’m not worried about the catches and the yards and all of that,” he said.
“I have the most fun when I get the ball thrown my way, I mean, who doesn’t? But it has everything to do with execution and just making sure we’re doing whatever we can to win these football games … that’s always gonna be the goal.”
Despite the Chiefs’ unusual challenges at the start of the season, they remain undefeated at 3-0 and are aiming to extend their winning streak.
