India breaks world record for fastest team 50 and 100 in Test cricket
India's openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal shattered a Test cricket world record during Day 4 of the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur.
After bowling Bangladesh out for 233 in their first innings, Rohit and Jaiswal came out with aggressive intent, hitting boundaries right from the start.
The duo brought up 50 runs in just three overs, marking the first time in Test cricket history that a team reached the 50-run milestone within three overs since data collection began.
Previously, England held the record for the fastest team fifty in Test cricket, scoring it in 26 balls against the West Indies at Trent Bridge earlier this year. However, India smashed that record by reaching their team fifty in just 18 balls.
India's previous fastest team fifty was against England in 2008 in Chennai, where they reached the mark in 5.2 overs.
This broke England’s previous record of 26 balls set earlier in 2024 against West Indies at Trent Bridge.
India also went on to break the world record for the fastest team hundred in Test cricket, reaching 100 runs in just 10.1 overs, surpassing their own previous best of 12.2 overs against West Indies in 2023.
India’s remarkable batting performance followed a solid bowling display where Jasprit Bumrah took 3/50, while Akash Deep, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Siraj shared six wickets.
Ravindra Jadeja also reached a milestone by completing 300 Test wickets.
Despite Mominul Haque's unbeaten 107, Bangladesh added only 28 runs in the post-lunch session, wrapping up their innings at 233.
