Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has called for pacer Akif Javed to be included in the national team for the upcoming three-match Test series against England in October.

During an appearance on a local news channel, Butt voiced concerns about the fitness of key bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Aamer Jamal, who have both recently sustained injuries.

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has advocated for Akif Javed’s inclusion in the national squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against England, set for October.

Butt's support for Javed stems from concerns over the fitness of key pacers Shaheen Afridi and Aamer Jamal, both of whom have sustained injuries recently.

Shaheen injured his left knee during a Champions Cup match, while Jamal suffered an injury playing county cricket for Warwickshire.

Speaking about the need for a strong replacement, Butt emphasized the lack of fully fit fast bowlers in the current squad and praised Akif Javed’s form. "Akif Javed should have been considered for selection. He’s been bowling well, taking wickets, and showing good line and length," Butt remarked.

Butt also acknowledged the promising young talent displayed during the Champions One-Day Cup, particularly Ali Raza, Jahandad, and Ubaid Shah.

He highlighted Abdul Samad’s impressive batting, with powerful sixes and strong body language, despite scoring under 50.

Additionally, he praised Haider Ali for rediscovering his form and applauded Babar Azam and Agha Salman for their consistent performances.

The England Test series, part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25, will kick off in Multan from October 7-11.

After the Champions One-Day Cup, where the Shadab Khan-led Panthers defeated Iftikhar Ahmed’s Markhors, the Pakistan team is gearing up for this critical series.
