IHC orders Islamabad IGP to dismiss fake cases against PTI leaders
The Islamabad High Court has directed the Inspector General of Islamabad Police (IGP), Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, to dismiss fake cases filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders to alleviate harassment concerns.
During a hearing concerning the harassment of PTI members Shoaib Shaheen, Ali Bukhari, and Amir Mughal, the IGP Islamabad appeared before the court. Chief Justice Amir Farooq emphasized the need for the IGP to address these matters appropriately. He stated, "I had previously ordered that these issues be looked into more thoroughly; this request pertains to police conduct regarding harassment."
In response, the IGP informed the court that he had received an order on the 24th and had subsequently gathered all necessary files to review the cases. The petitioners' lawyer, Umair Baloch, pointed out that fake FIRs had also been lodged against them.
Chief Justice Farooq remarked, "IG, please take a look at this; it doesn’t look good. Dismiss the fake cases." The IG assured the court that he would call the petitioners for a meeting, and the Chief Justice instructed that the meeting should occur in the presence of their lawyer, Umair Baloch.
The court subsequently adjourned the hearing for two weeks, highlighting the ongoing tensions surrounding the treatment of PTI members by law enforcement agencies.
