Youth to lead climate action in Sindh's vulnerable districts

.

KARACHI:

In a significant initiative to combat the growing threat of climate change, the Sindh Community Foundation (SCF), an organization working for climate change, environmental management and youth leadership in collaboration with the British Council under the Pakistan Youth Leadership Program (PYLI), has successfully trained 825 young people from three of Pakistan's most climate-affected districts: Sanghar, Matiari, and Thatta. This intensive program, consisting of 24 four-day workshops, aimed to empower youth to become leaders in climate resilience, with 60% male and 40% female participants.

Nine expert facilitators guided participants through essential topics such as environmental sustainability, climate change adaptation and mitigation, leadership skills, and issue mapping. In small groups of 5 to 7, these young leaders designed local ecological projects to address specific climate challenges in their communities.

These youth-led initiatives span critical areas, including solid waste management, tree planting, renewable energy promotion, water conservation, and climate change education.
