CM Murad releases Rs1.5b for road repairs
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has stated that the Sindh government is focusing intensely on the issues facing Karachi and is making every possible effort to provide convenience to the public.
He mentioned that repair work on the city's roads commenced after the rains, with the Sindh government already releasing Rs1.5 billion to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) for road repairs.
The Sindh CM noted that Rs200 billion are being spent on various projects in Karachi, and work is progressing rapidly on key transport projects, according to a press release issued by the CM House.
He stated that the completion of the Red Line and Yellow Line BRT projects would significantly improve transportation issues in the city.
He added that discussions have once again begun with Chinese officials through the federal government for the restoration of the Karachi Circular Railway, the Pakistan Peoples Party will soon provide this project to its citizens.
The Sindh Chief Minister also mentioned that the completion of the Malir Expressway would enhance traffic flow in the city and resolve congestion issues.
The Sindh government is planning to construct another expressway from Karachi Port to Jam Sadiq Bridge. He emphasized that once projects like transport, road sector improvements, Safe City, and K-4 are completed, Karachi will become a great city.
Previously, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah chaired a meeting to evaluate the damage inflicted on city roads by the rainfall in 2024. He approved Rs1.5 billion for the necessary repairs and instructed the Local Government Department to investigate the condition of roads that had been constructed or repaired since 2022 and subsequently washed away.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab informed the Chief Minister that approximately 17.86 million square feet of road area had been affected during the 2024 rainfall.
Murtaza Wahab noted that around Rs1.5 billion would be needed for the repair and reconstruction of the damaged roads, bridges, and flyovers, a request that the Chief Minister approved on the spot, directing for quality work to be undertaken.
Meanwile, CM Murad has condemned, the killing of innocent laborers in Panjgur.
He said that such incidents were a conspiracy to increase hatred and harm to national unity, according to a CM's spokesman.
The Chief Minister said this nation had seen major incidents of terrorism but did not allow to affect the national unity. He also expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased labourers.
