Food prices on the rise

The prices of essential commodities continued to rise this week, exacerbating the financial burden on the public already grappling with high inflation. Alongside the price hike, rampant overcharging intensified the impact, with many vendors charging beyond the official rates.

The government's market control appeared to be absent, as sellers operates without oversight, setting their prices at will.

While the government's performance on ground seemed lacklustre, the officials appeared more active showcasing their efforts on the social media.

The lack of adherence to official price lists was evident throughout the city, with basic items such as milk, curd, meat, grains and pulses being sold at inflated rates.

The official price of live chicken remained unchanged as compared to the previous week at Rs397-411 per kg, yet it was sold at Rs460-480.

Chicken meat, officially priced at Rs595 per kg, was found being sold for as high as Rs670-960 per kg.

Vegetable prices also witnessed significant hikes. The price of sugar-free potatoes increased by Rs3 per kg.
