ISLAMABAD:

Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM) Chairman Altaf Ahmed Bhat on Saturday expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for supporting the Kashmir cause during his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Bhat praised Pakistan's unwavering commitment to the Kashmiri struggle, noting that prime minister's bold stance had once again drawn global attention to the ongoing human rights violations and the legitimate aspirations of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

"The oppressed people of Kashmir are deeply indebted to Prime Minister Sharif for his principled and courageous stand against India's illegal occupation and for exposing the brutal settler-colonial policies being enforced by the Indian government in IOJK," Bhat stated.

He emphasized that Pakistan's continued advocacy on international forums provided the people of Kashmir with hope and encouragement in their long-standing fight for self-determination.

Bhat expressed hope that world leaders would respond to the prime minister's call for a peaceful and just resolution of the Kashmir dispute, which remains central to peace and stability in the region.

He further called on the international community to not only acknowledge but actively support efforts to resolve the Kashmir dispute by urgently implementing the UN resolutions on Kashmir, emphasizing that lasting peace in South Asia depends on granting the people of Jammu and Kashmir their right to self-determination.

He stressed that the UN resolutions, which mandate a plebiscite, must be enforced to end the ongoing human rights violations and decades of Indian occupation.
