PPP, PML-N rift deepens
Cracks between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have deepened, as the power-sharing formula remains stuck in limbo, with no signs of implementation.
Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider has decided to raise the issue directly with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, after several meetings between the two parties yielded no progress.
"A written power-sharing agreement was finalized before the formation of the government, yet nothing has been implemented despite multiple meetings between PPP and PML-N," the governor said.
He added that it was not appropriate for him to repeatedly request meetings without any results.
The governor revealed that he plans to suggest to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to terminate the power-sharing arrangement in Punjab, stressing the need to move on.
"For the sake of the country, we will swallow the bitter pill and continue to support the PML-N to keep the system running," Haider said.
He also expressed his belief that PPP should not expect anything from PML-N in Punjab. "We need to make it clear to our members that we are in the opposition. Our people know that they shouldn't demand roads and streets from us," he remarked.
Governor Haider stressed that instead of focusing on developmental projects, PPP will prioritise merit-based politics and the nation's broader interests.
He assured the public and party workers in Punjab that he would do everything possible to strengthen the party and resolve their issues.
"The doors of Governor House are open 24/7 for the people of Punjab and party workers," he added.
