Shops selling substandard LPG cylinders sealed
Substandard liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders pose threat to life and property of the citizens, Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi said on Friday, green flagging a crackdown to seal the shops that sell poor quality LPG cylinders.
As per reports 97 shops selling illegal LPG cylinder have been sealed in the East district and 25 in Central.
The use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has substantially increased owning to gas supply cuts, particularly in winters, and also as a fuel for vehicles. However, some scrupulous elements manufacture these cylinders in thin gauge metal sheets or even repaint old and rusted cylinders to sell as new ones.
There have a number of fatal explosions in the city due to faulty cylinders. In this regards, Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired a meeting to review actions against illegal LPG cylinders sales and to ensure safety of the users and citizens. The meeting decided to initiate a crackdown on sellers of substandard cylinders through coordinated efforts with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and other departments concerned.
