LAHORE:

Punjab government imposed Section 144 in seven cities across the province for the upcoming Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) examinations scheduled for Saturday, 28 September, and Sunday, 29 September.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, the restrictions will be enforced in exam centres located in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan. The ban will be effective from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on both days, and will apply to all areas within 100 yards of the designated exam centres.

As per the official notification, only candidates appearing for the exams and supervisory staff will be allowed inside the exam centres. Any unauthorised movement around the centres will be strictly prohibited.

A total of 25 exam centres have been established in these cities to facilitate the PPSC exams, with Section 144 in place to ensure smooth conduct and prevent any disruptions.

This measure aims to maintain order and prevent any potential disturbances during the examination hours. Meanwhile, the police arrested 724 suspects this year as part of the anti-smog efforts while 934 cases were registered.

In the provincial capital alone, 70 suspects were arrested, and 179 cases filed. IG Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, directed an intensified crackdown on smog-causing activities in highways, industrial areas, and other locations.

He instructed that Safe City cameras be used to ramp up actions against vehicles contributing to smog. Punjab Highway Patrol and Traffic Police were also directed to expedite measures against such vehicles on roads.

Dr Usman Anwar emphasized that Punjab Police is fully cooperating with the Environment Department in efforts to reduce smog. He instructed immediate action against vehicles, factories, and crop burning that contribute to smog.
