Karachi's temperature heats up as northern Pakistan prepares for rainstorms

Karachi is currently under hot and humid weather conditions.

The Meteorological Department reports that the city's temperature could rise to 36°C, with a minimum temperature recorded at 27.8°C.

The expected maximum temperature ranges between 34°C and 36°C.

Humidity levels are at 78%, and winds are blowing from the west at a speed of 14 km/h.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz had earlier said that isolated rain with thunder could be expected in areas including Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Umerkot, and surrounding regions between September 26 and 28.

As the city braces for continued heat, residents are advised to take necessary precautions against the high temperatures and maintain hydration during this spell of hot weather.

On the other hand, Rain has been falling intermittently in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Taxila since late last night, bringing a pleasant change in the weather.

However, the heavy rainfall in the twin cities and nearby areas has caused waterlogging on several streets and roads, along with reports of trees being uprooted.

So far, over 120 millimeters of rain has been recorded in the twin cities. The downpour has also caused more than 40 feeders to trip, leading to widespread power outages in many areas.

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and other relevant authorities are on high alert to handle any potential emergencies.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast thunderstorms and rain with gusty winds in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern and central Punjab, the Potohar region, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Heavy rain and hail are expected in parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Punjab, the Potohar region, Islamabad, and Kashmir.

The National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning for strong winds and thunderstorms in several areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, from September 26 to October 1, 2024.
