Diljit Dosanjh's film 'Punjab 95' faces 120 censor cuts
Diljit Dosanjh's film 'Punjab 95' faces multiple demands for censorship by India's censor board (CBFC).
According to a report by Indian Newspaper, the censor board initially demanded 85 scenes to be removed from the film, but after the revision committee's review, this number reached 120 cuts.
Among these demands, the most controversial demand is to change the name of the main character, Jaswant Singh Khalra, for which the board has suggested the name "Sutlej," which is one of the rivers of Punjab.
The producers of the film have strongly opposed this change, as Khalra is a respected figure in the Sikh community, and changing his name is considered disrespectful to his legacy.
In addition, the censor board has also proposed changing the title 'Punjab 95,' which refers to the year in Punjab when Jaswant Singh Khalra disappeared.
Furthermore, the board has also demanded the removal of a scene based on the sacred book of the Sikh religion, Gurbani.
The board has demanded the removal of any mention of Punjab and district Tarn Taran in the film and has deemed references to Canada and the UK as inappropriate, asking for their removal as well.
The producers have called these demands unnecessary and unjust to the original story of the film. They say that the film is based on true events and testimonies, and changing it would affect its truthfulness.
This film has been directed by Honey Trehan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala along with MacGuffin Pictures. The film also stars Arjun Rampal and Surinder Vicky in key roles.
