Dengue cases escalate in Mianwali
Dengue fever cases have spiralled in Mianwali, with dozens of new patients emerging daily.
The total number of confirmed dengue cases has surged to 49, with six new cases reported on Wednesday.
Just five days ago, there were only 12 cases, indicating a rapid spread of the disease.
At present, 43 dengue patients are being treated at the District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital. The situation is dire, with 105 sites in Tehsil Mianwali identified as breeding grounds for dengue larvae, and four more tested positive today.
Despite the rising number of cases, local authorities have yet to implement effective preventive measures. No insecticide spraying has been conducted to eliminate the dengue larvae, and critical areas like warehouses, service stations, and tire shops have not been inspected for mosquito breeding grounds.
Poor preparedness by the local administration has worsened the situation, with recent rains flooding the underpass and causing sewage system failures across the city. Overflowing sewage on streets has further contributed to the mosquito infestation. One person has already died due to dengue, and hundreds are reportedly suffering from the disease, with hospitals struggling to manage the influx of patients.
