LAHORE:

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has officially applied for permission to hold a political gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan, one of Lahore's most iconic landmarks.

The application, submitted to the Lahore Deputy Commissioner, seeks approval for a rally on October 5, from 5:00pm to 11:00pm.

PTI representatives, including MPA Sheikh Imtiaz Mehmood (PP-155), Aliya Hamza Malik, and Ali Ijaz Buttar, have requested a no objection certificate (NOC) for the event, which is expected to draw a large crowd.

The application pointed out that the party intends to use the historic Iqbal Park venue, with preparations already underway to ensure the event's success.

In its submission, a copy of which was obtained by The Express Tribune, PTI emphasised its commitment to maintaining law and order, pledging full cooperation with local authorities to ensure a peaceful and organised event.

The party underscored its constitutional right to hold political gatherings, citing Article 16 of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of assembly and expression.

The application also referenced previous rulings by the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Lahore High Court that upheld the right to free public assembly.
