Phillip Schofield is set to return to television after a 16-month break, following his departure from This Morning in May 2023, due to a highly publicized affair with a younger colleague. Schofield secretly filmed a new show for Channel 5 titled Cast Away, where he spent 10 days on a remote tropical island in the Indian Ocean. The three-part series will explore Schofield’s emotional journey and reflection on his exit from ITV, as he fends for himself in isolation.

According to The Sun, Schofield was provided with body cameras and a handheld camera to document his experience, which includes discussing his relationship and subsequent fallout from the affair. A source noted, “He wanted a chance to share his story, unedited and honest,” with raw and emotional footage expected to air. Despite several high-profile offers, Schofield chose this challenge after consulting with friends and family. The presenter is still "very bruised" and remains uncertain about a full-time return to TV.

Fans have expressed mixed reactions, with many feeling conflicted about Schofield’s return to mainstream television. While PR expert Mark Borkowski suggests audiences are "forgiving" and that Schofield is “testing the waters,” some viewers are unhappy, particularly given the lingering controversy around his affair and departure from ITV.

Schofield admitted in past interviews that the affair left him feeling suicidal, and credited his daughters with saving his life during the tumultuous period. His new show will be his first TV appearance since the scandal, airing soon on Channel 5.
