No decision yet on Imran's military trial, IHC told

AAG Duggal says civil magistrate will be requested first if decision is made

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) disposed of a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan on Tuesday, after the government clarified that no decision had yet been made regarding his military trial and that the law would be followed if such a decision were to be taken.

IHC Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb heard the plea of the PTI founder. The petitioner had requested the court to stop his possible military detention and trial. Lawyers Uzair Bhandari and Faisal Chaudhry appeared in the court to represent the petitioner.

AAG Munnawar Duggal and a defence ministry official appeared on behalf of the government. Duggal stated that a military trial of the PTI founder had not been decided yet, adding that if any such decision was taken, legal procedure would be followed.

"If the military trial is decided, then the application will go to the civil magistrate first," the AAG told the court.

Following the AAG's statement, the court disposed of the PTI founder's petition to halt his potential military detention and trial.

The petition, without naming anyone, stated that a few weeks ago a senior retired army officer was taken into military custody and according to media reports, that former officer could become approver against the petitioner and that the petitioner could be taken into military custody.
