The son of a man suspected in an apparent assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump has been arrested on federal charges related to child sexual abuse material.

Oran Alexander Routh was arrested this week after authorities searched his Greensboro, North Carolina, home for an unrelated investigation and discovered hundreds of files depicting child sexual abuse, according to FBI court documents.

Investigators found videos sent to Routh in July and uncovered chats from a messaging app commonly used to share child exploitation material. He faces two charges of possessing and receiving child sexual abuse images and is expected to appear in federal court in North Carolina.

Oran Routh's father, Ryan Wesley Routh, has been charged with federal gun offenses in connection with the assassination attempt on Trump at his Florida golf course earlier this month.

Prosecutors indicated that more serious charges, including attempted assassination, are forthcoming. Ryan Routh reportedly left a note outlining his failed plan to kill Trump, which was found in a box at an acquaintance’s home after his arrest.

Ryan Routh, currently facing weapons charges, is being held while awaiting trial. Prosecutors plan to present additional charges before a grand jury, which could lead to a life sentence if convicted.
