DIJKOT:

Ghulam Dastgir, a student critically injured in a shooting by Elite Force personnel last week, passed away at a local hospital on Monday.

The incident occurred on Eid Miladul Nabi, September 17, when Dastgir, a resident of Chak 353, Kot Kabirwala, was returning from a celebration in Jaranwala city with friends Ali Kamran, Haider and Asad.

Elite Force officers Naveed Arshad and Tariq attempted to stop the group near Haider Agricultural Farm in 353 GB, but when the students did not comply, the officers allegedly pursued them. The chase ended in gunfire, with Dastgir and Kamran being shot while their friends managed to escape.

Initially, the incident was reported as a police encounter, but upon arrival at the scene, senior officers became suspicious and detained the Elite Force personnel, launching an investigation.

Late last night, Ghulam Dastgir succumbed to his injuries, triggering outrage among his family and local community.

Dozens of protesters gathered outside the Allied Hospital Mortuary, demanding justice and immediate action against the responsible officers. Led by SP Jaranwala Abid Hussain Zafar, police officials addressed the protesters, assuring them that the accused personnel were already in custody and that formal charges had been registered. Following these assurances, the crowd dispersed peacefully.

In response to the incident, an investigative team led by SP Jaranwala Abid Hussain Zafar, DSP-AVLS Usman Waraich, and DSP Jaranwala has been formed to determine the truth behind the alleged encounter.

Ghulam Dastgir's body was returned to his native village, 353 GB, where his funeral was held at 3 pm.

Dastgir was laid to rest in the village cemetery, surrounded by relatives, friends, and community members mourning the tragic loss.
