HYDERABAD:

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) wants the federal government to rescind its agreements with the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) because they are selling electricity at exorbitant rates to consumers through the distribution companies.

Addressing a press conference at Hyderabad Press Club on Monday, Chairman Standing Committee Industries and Production MNA Syed Hafeezuddin also blamed the IPPs for closure of industries in Karachi and Hyderabad.

He said Pakistan's circular debt has crossed Rs2,000 billion while there is no accountability of hundreds of billions of rupees which are being collected from electricity consumers.
